You should already feel a little better with some new perspective about your friends and family. And while I have you in this compassionate and rational space, I think it’s safe to move on to our last topic—boys. Remember, I said be nice!

Boys can be a curious species. They can be great at saying the wrong things, and they can do an excellent job of picking on you. Other times, you can just sit back and watch as they make fools of themselves. But please don’t forget, they’re going through puberty too, and puberty for a guy can be a very different ride.

For starters, they go through puberty later than girls—not until they’re between 9 and 14 years old. As tempting as it may be, this is no reason to make fun of them. Boys can’t help when they go through puberty, just like girls can’t help when they do. Since boys start later than girls, this means that girls might grow taller than boys for a while. Girls might start looking more like women before boys start looking like men. Girls will also start to mature emotionally earlier than boys. This is all completely normal, and hopefully understanding this helps you have a little more patience for boys and their antics.
